Each Medi/Nuclear® Radioaerosol Lead Shield has its own Ventilator Kit.
The Ventilator Kit is used for performing ventilation studies on patients connected to a Ventilator. The Ventilaor will not get contaminated since the Ventilator Kit creates a closed system. The kit contains an 18” delivery tube that connects from the nebulizer body to the endotracheal or tracheostomy tube in the patient. The connector is 15 mm I.D. and is a standard size in the respiratory industry. You do not need to order special parts or search the hospital for that special adapter. The Ventilator tubes connected to the “Y” connector and attached to the trach tube should now be attached to the supplied adapter and elbow connector and attached to the HEPA filter through the opening under the lead shield. We have calculated the mechanical deadspace (rebreathed) volume that is increased when you attach the delivery tube to the trach tube. If needed, the Respiratory Therapist can make any ventilator adjustments based on the mechanical deadspace volume. The mechanical deadspace volume for the Insta/Vent™ and Aero/Vent™ Jr Ventilator Kits is 200 mL and 270 mL for the Aero/Vent™ + Plus. The Ventilator kits require 40 mCi of Tc-99m-DTPA in a maximum volume of 2 mL. The dosing time is nominally 3 to 5 minutes. The Ventilator kit is easy to use and should be readily accepted by your patients.
